UGA again named a top 10 Military Friendly institution

Student Veterans Resource Center helps military members transition to college life

For the ninth year in a row, Viqtory Media has named the University of Georgia one of the top Military Friendly tier 1 research institutions in the country, ranking UGA sixth. Even as the rankings become increasingly competitive each year, UGA continues its stronghold in the top 10 and earned the No. 1 ranking in 2017, 2021 and 2023.

Jon Segars, director of the Student Veterans Resource Center, notes that the ranking is a testament to how well the university cares for its veterans and service members.

“We are excited to be in the top 10 again this year and so fortunate to have such outstanding support from the entire UGA family,” Segars said. “Our veterans are in good hands.”

In caring for student veterans and service members, the SVRC helps to ease the transition from the military to higher education, improve the UGA experience and facilitate career readiness. The SVRC collaborates with units across the campus to help students explore all available opportunities and maximize their military benefits.

Second-year engineering student and Army veteran Phil Friedrich has found great support and guidance through the SVRC.

“The SVRC provides a home to rediscover purpose after the military,” Friedrich said.

With an average age of 34 years old, UGA student veterans bring an invaluable range of experiences and perspectives to the classroom. They also come with unique challenges as they navigate the demands of adult life. Many of them have families, full-time jobs and longer commute distances to campus compared to most traditional college students.

As a perennial top Military Friendly school, UGA sets the standard for helping our veterans overcome these and other challenges. To learn more about the SVRC and UGA’s student veterans, visit https://svrc.uga.edu/.
