Best Practices for Staff Recruitment

The Division of Student Affairs is committed to equitable, consistent, and informed staff recruitment practices. The resources below are organized by recruitment phase to support hiring authorities, search committees, and others involved in the process. These tools are intended to help you prepare for searches, communicate with applicants, and conduct interviews effectively and fairly.

Note: Georgia Open Records Act (O.C.G.A. 50-18-70) places almost all recorded forms of information maintained or received during University operations in the public record. Only a few exceptions exist, notably information protected by privacy laws or certain types of protected confidential data. Any citizen can make an open records request. Once a search is closed, all recorded information is subject to an open records request.

Any individual involved in the search process (hiring authority, search chair, search committee, students, etc.) must complete the mandatory UGA Employee Recruitment Training prior to beginning the search. The training can be found on the Professional Education Portal (PEP) website by searching “UGA Employee Recruitment Training”.
