UGA Transfer Welcome builds community for new students
On Monday, Aug. 11, University Transitions hosted the University of Georgia’s Transfer Welcome event. The university officially welcomed more than 400 transfer students to campus in the West End Zone lounge at Sanford Stadium, where attendees enjoyed touring the football locker room, prize drawings, food and community building. UGA’s newest transfer students connected with each other and had the opportunity to meet and engage with President Morehead, senior administrators, and University Transitions staff.

Esteban Lazaro, a transfer student who now serves as a Transition Leader, was enthusiastic about meeting new transfers at the event.
“I was so excited to see that there were still lots of new transfers that were excited to come and start to build a community at a new school,” said Lazaro.

Attendees praised the atmosphere of the event, expressing appreciation for an event dedicated solely to transfer students. The activities of the night, including a game of bingo and photo opportunities, created an unforgettable experience for all transfer students as they begin their journey at UGA.
“The bingo game was really helpful in facilitating interactions among fellow transfer students. I also loved the opportunity to visit the locker room and the photo booth!” said an attendee.
A transition to a new school can be very challenging for all new students, including freshmen and transfer students. Transfer Welcome gives transfer students an early opportunity to cultivate meaningful connections as they adapt to a new campus and community.
