Barrett Malone Named Associate Dean of Students
Barrett Malone, currently Director for Student Conduct at the University of Georgia, has been named as Associate Dean of Students. The newly created position is part of an organizational update for the Division of Student Affairs following the retirement of current Dean of Students Bill McDonald and the beginning of new Dean of Students Eric Atkinson’s tenure on March 1.
The Division of Student Affairs will unite Atkinson’s current administrative responsibilities as Associate Vice President with his additional responsibilities as part of a newly enhanced student support and engagement portfolio for the Dean of Students.
As an Associate Dean, Malone will serve on the Student Affairs Leadership Team and provide administrative oversight to Student Conduct, Greek Life, and the Student Veterans Resource Center, as well as chair the Behavioral Assessment and Response Council (BARC). Associate Dean of Students Jan Barham will continue to supervise the Tate Student Center, Student Transitions, and Engagement, Leadership, and Service.
“Barrett is an outstanding colleague who has expertly served UGA students and the university community, and his leadership as Associate Dean of Students will continue to enhance our efforts to provide the most exceptional learning environment possible,” said Atkinson. “I am truly excited for the future of these areas, and for the students they engage and support.”
Malone said that student engagement, support, accountability, and safety are critical to student success.
“The college experience is as enriching, and challenging, as it has ever been,” said Malone. “I believe UGA offers students from the State of Georgia, our nation, and around the world outstanding opportunities to learn, lead, and grow, and I’m honored and excited to support my colleagues in helping our students thrive and emerge as the leaders of tomorrow.”
Malone’s appointment is effective March 1.
He has served as Director for Student Conduct since 2012. Before coming to the university, he was an attorney with Prior, Daniel, & Wiltshire, LLC, and also completed a clinical externship with the Honorable Kent Lawrence in the State Court of Clarke County. He has also previously worked in the University of Georgia Athletic Association and the Laurens County Cooperative Extension Office.
Malone is an alumnus of the University of Georgia, where he earned his Juris Doctor from the School of Law, as well as a B.B.A. in management information systems from the Terry College of Business.
