Student Government Outstanding Legislation Award: SGA’s Impact on the UGA Community
The University of Georgia’s Student Government Association was recently recognized at the 2026 SEC Exchange, receiving the Outstanding Legislation Award.
The award is presented to a student government association for implementing an outstanding piece of legislation with a positive impact on the campus and surrounding community. Senator Lily Kreindler, Chair of the Senate’s Educational Affairs Committee, primarily drafted and introduced A Resolution Regarding a Midterm Grade Submission Expectation. The resolution requires all professors to submit student feedback by the midterm date, allowing students to identify potential academic challenges in time to utilize academic resources if necessary. Faculty will determine how to provide feedback, whether through graded assignments, exams, papers, or other measurements of academic performance. This implementation would give students a clearer understanding of their performance in a course before the withdrawal deadline, leading to a reduction in class withdrawals.
President of the SGA Senate Amanda Neighbour accepted the award at the conference. “Walking up to accept the award, I felt nothing but pride for the organization I have the honor of leading and for being a student at the University of Georgia. I know how hard the senators work, and it was amazing to see them be recognized, especially on such a large scale,” she says.
The resolution was unanimously endorsed by the University’s Educational Affairs Committee, with strong support from several Deans. The policy will be presented to the University Council in early Fall of 2026. Once passed, the policy will go into effect for all undergraduate courses in Spring 2027.
Composed of representatives across campus, SGA has historically advocated for the student body, laying the groundwork for large initiatives. During the last administration, the organization presented and passed 26 new resolutions on campus. Previous accomplishments were also shared at the conference, including the implementation of Narcan boxes in 25 local establishments and the addition of the 988 Crisis Lifeline on UGA OneCards. Other initiatives discussed include the Books for Keeps Drive, our Residence Building Services Worker Appreciation Day at the stadium, the Sit with Me Initiative in the Dining Halls, and the Franklin Consulting Group.
SGA continues to enhance the UGA experience with its executive initiatives. The organization also accepts suggestions directly from students through its student suggestion box, giving students a voice.
