Update on the Status of the University of Georgia

The University of Georgia remains closed today, September 27, due to the effects of Hurricane Helene. While the storm has moved north of Athens, windy conditions are expected to continue today and tomorrow with the potential for additional trees and limbs to fall.

As soon as the storm passed, staff from the Facilities Management Division (FMD), the UGA Police Department, and the Office of Emergency Preparedness were deployed to assess damage to buildings, clear downed trees from roads, and remove debris across the Athens campus.

There are no power outages reported on the main campus.

Campus operations, events, and activities are expected to return to normal this weekend with in-person classes and business operations resuming on Monday, September 30. UGA buses will return to regular schedules at 7 p.m. tonight. All UGA Athens campus facilities, including the Tate Center, Ramsey Center, libraries, and dining services, will open for normal operations tomorrow, September 28.

We are still gathering reports from UGA’s extended campuses. Faculty, staff and students at those campuses should continue to follow local directions specific to their locations.

Please continue to follow UGA’s social media accounts, check your UGA email regularly, and monitor emergency.uga.edu for updates.
