Samantha Roundtree, Student Care & Outreach

Samantha Roundtree

Student Affairs Case Manager

Her is some of what a co-worker said about Samantha:

“Her empathy and personal connection to her work are always at the forefront and have made her highly skilled at connecting in a deep and meaningful way with any student, staff, faculty member, parent or any person she engages with.”

Let's learn more about Samantha!

Are you from Georgia? If not, where are you from?

  • I was born in Florida and grew up splitting my time between Georgia and Florida. So, home for me is a little spread out.

How long have you worked at UGA?

  • I started working at UGA in October of 2020 as a COVID-19 case manager in Student Care and Outreach. I began doing full-time case Mangement with SCO in 2022.

What’s your favorite UGA tradition?

  • I think there is something really special about hearing the chapel bell and knowing that someone has something to celebrate in that moment. I think a lot of joy can be found in celebrating in other people’s moments and that is a really fun way to do so.

What does a “day in the life” look like for you at work?

  • Much of my day is made up of meetings with students, so every day is often different. This is something I really enjoy about our work because every student is different and each of them brings something new to the table when they walk through the door.

What are three things you love most about your job?

  • I really enjoy the people in my office. I often feel supported and championed by the people I see every single day, and getting the opportunity to work with them has always felt like a big honor.
  • I love having the opportunity to learn and understand even just a small part of the story that each student I meet with has. Each one brings something unique to the table, and being able to encourage and support them while they navigate through life’s challenges is an honor.
  • I also love that a part of my job is connecting not just with the people within our office, but other offices all over campus. I think we have the unique opportunity to collaborate with other offices to help create a good support system for the students we all work with.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

  •  Last year I went through the process of becoming a birth doula and because of that I have been able to bring a unique experience into the work I do here in Student Care and Outreach. Specifically, when it comes to working with students who may be new or expecting mothers.

What might be some ways that staff could collaborate or partner with you?

  • If you feel like a student you support could use some additional assistance, please send them our way! You can email our office at SCO@uga.edu or submit a referral via our website SCO.uga.edu.

What are your hobbies or favorite things to do for fun?

  • There is nothing I love more than an opportunity to dress up or an event with a theme. I get really excited to create silly events that require my friends and I to go and have fun together. Our upcoming fun event is an Oppenheimer and Barbie double feature movie day, with a Barbie themed dress code.

Do you have a favorite quote? What is it?

  • “I want to do something splendid… Something heroic or wonderful that won’t be forgotten after I’m dead. I don’t know what, but I’m on the watch for it and mean to astonish you all someday.” – Louisa May Alcott (Little Women).

What is your favorite spot on campus or in Athens?

  • Bear Hollow! It was one of the first places I ever went to prior to moving to Athens and every time I go it feels nostalgic and familiar. I am very fond of the Otters in particular.

What is the coolest thing you have ever done and why?

  • I once got to stand backstage at a We the Kings concert with my best friend during Warped Tour. I have never felt cooler in my entire life.
