Staff Representative Group
Mission Statement: The SRG for the Division of Student Affairs strives to foster community among classified staff through advocacy and open communication. The SRG serves as a channel of communication between classified staff and administrators to address issues of concern and interest.
About
The objectives of SRG include:
- To provide a forum for the introduction of staff-related concerns of the Division of Student Affairs
- To discuss such issues and concerns and determine whether an item can be resolved within the Division of Student Affairs
- To make recommendations that a staff concern be introduced to the University-wide Staff Council
- To represent the Division of Student Affairs to the larger University Staff Council
History
In 1987, after recognizing that there was no official body that addressed and represented issues and concerns directly related to the classified staff, Dr. Charles Knapp, incoming president at that time, issued a memorandum outlining the organization of such a group and hence the Staff Council was formed.
The Staff Council of the University of Georgia is officially recognized by the Board of Regents as a university-wide communications network organization designed to deal with university related staff concerns and issues, and as an advisory board to the President of the University.
The by-laws of the Staff Council require staff representation from each college, school, and vice presidential unit of the University. The Student Affairs Staff Representative Group (SRG) ensures that representatives to the Staff Council are elected and that they remain informed of any issues of importance to the Division of Student Affairs and its employees.
