The highlight(s) of my time at UGA so far has been…

Being involved in Recreational Sports. I found my home here at UGA with my “Ram Fam.” I have been given many opportunities to grow professionally through leadership roles but also grow as a person with the relationships I have formed with my coworkers. To say that I have become genuine friends with 70 of my coworkers would seem like an exaggeration, but it is the truth. It is such a blessing to have somewhere I can call my second home and to have a professional staff and student staff that truly cares about how others and myself are doing academically and personally. The spirit of Rec Sports is to guide students and provide opportunities for leadership and responsibility. I have experienced this first hand and it has made a lasting impression on my views about integrity, work ethic and respect.

I chose to attend UGA because…

It is, simply put, the best. All my life I have had others tell me about their experiences at the University of Georgia and what a great school it is. Although some come for the “southern school traditions” like Saturday football and ringing the bell, and all who come enjoy those traditions, I came so that I could receive the best education. I am proud to say that I will graduate from the University of Georgia and hope to continue my educational career here. The quality of teachers and education that I have received from this school is excellent. The professors in my program truly have a passion for what they do and instill that passion into us. To be an education major, especially a special education major, takes a true passion and to have professors who appreciate that and want us to be the best we can be is fantastic. I never expected to come into a huge university and have professors who are available anytime and who provide such great guidance and wisdom.

In my spare time, I like to…

Spend time with my family and friends. Being a senior and an education major, I know that I have little time left to spend time with my friends and family before I student teach and have to get a job (or go to graduate school). I love my cohort and the friends I’ve made along the way here at UGA and want to spend as much time with them as I can before we graduate and leave Athens.

In 10 years, I hope to be...

Working with families and making an impact in my future community. I have a passion for education, not just for young children but also for families and communities as a whole. The children that we educate today are going to be the leaders of tomorrow, and we as a society must give them as many opportunities for achievement as possible. A child is not just a student, but is a part of a family and community and families and communities need to be strong and supportive of all those who are a part of it.

If I had five minutes to speak to the entire population of the world with no language barriers, I would say…

Be proud of where you come from and never forget how you can make an impact. Every one is given different opportunities in life to excel.  Whether those opportunities are small or large, it is our responsibility to help better ourselves and those around us. Using our individual backgrounds and assets, we can truly impact every person we are surrounded by.
