Our Mission is to serve as a comprehensive Department of Student Affairs Assessment by:
- Facilitating effective and intentional assessment practice within Student Affairs units
- Overseeing Division-wide planning processes and assessment initiatives that promote success within Student Affairs
- Supporting initiatives at the institutional level that improve organizational effectiveness and enhance the learning environment for students
- Participating in scholarly activities that further develop skills and knowledge in the areas of assessment, evaluation, and research
- Providing professional development opportunities aligned with the priorities of the Division

In our practice, we strive to provide accurate and timely work; develop, create, and implement logical processes and policies

In our practice, we strive to facilitate open and frequent communication between office staff, clients, constituents, and the University community; develop easy-to-navigate, informative Web site; share data with key stakeholders

In our practice, we strive to promote ethical principles and professional standards of good practice in assessment, evaluation, and research
- Collaboration
In our practice, we strive to partner with Student Affairs staff, students, faculty, administrators, professional organizations, and other constituents to create and implement projects that align with the master assessment plan
- Technical Expertise
In our practice, we strive to utilize appropriate and up-to-date survey, data analysis, and assessment technologies and provide training on their use
DSAA is responsible for the following:
- Overseeing strategic planning, priority planning, and annual reporting processes at the Division level
- Coordinating the implementation of the Student Affairs Learning and Development Objectives
- Supporting Division staff in the development and implementation of unit-based assessment projects
- Coordinating professional development opportunities related to assessment, research, strategic management, and other Division priorities
- Planning, coordinating, and executing studies on student behaviors, satisfaction, retention, and attitudes related to Division and Institutional goals
- Regularly disseminating information from assessment and research efforts to interested members of the campus community
- Overseeing and facilitating Division compliance related to SACS reaffirmation of accreditation
- Facilitating the Assessment Team, a year-long training program designed to equip staff with basic assessment knowledge and skills
- Managing Graduate Assistant Selection Process for the Division
DSAA offers training in areas such as the following:
- Writing learning outcomes
- Designing an assessment project from start to finish
- Creating a questionnaire
- Designing a rubric
- Conducting interviews and focus groups
- Conducting observations for assessment purposes
- Conducting a benchmark for a program or service
- Adhering to ethical standards and institutional policies
- Using existing data (for example, brochures, annual reports, student records)
- Determining the appropriate sampling strategy for a project
- Determining the appropriate assessment method for a project
- Integrating the Student Affairs Learning and Development Objectives (SALDOs) into assessment practice
- Analyzing qualitative and quantitative data
- Incorporating assessment into departmental planning processes
- Using results from assessment projects to improve programs and services
- Reporting assessment results to various audiences
